
Dr. D.Balasubramanium is currently working as a director at The L.V.Prasad Eye Hospital, Hyderabad. He has worked as the Director of CCMB, and has been a Professor & Dean at The University of Hyderabad. His research interests include Molecular and Cellular Approaches to Understand and Treat Diseases of the Eye. He has published more than 145 papers and authored three books. He was awarded the “Padma Shri” – a national honor by the President of India in 2002. He was also awarded The “Chevalier de l’Ordre National de Merite” – a national honor by the President of France in 2002 and has received several other awards.

The Right to Walk Foundation is also the first organisation to bring up the issue of pedestrian friendly cities as a facet of human rights and it has filed a petition with the State Human Rights Commission seeking redressal.
This erstwhile educational expert and MBA from Osmania University has but a solitary dream – to one day be able to take a tour of the city of Hyderabad, a city she was born and brought up in, on foot, without putting her life and limbs in peril!

Syed Maqbool Ahmed is the Principal Scientific Officer, Central Instruments Laboratory, University of Hyderabad. He is a Ph.D from Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad. He was an associate professor at Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar and a Research Associate at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA. He was a scientist at ISRO Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Thiruvananthapuram. Mr. Ahmed has headed a team of five, which designed Chandra’s Altitudinal Composition Explorer (CHACE) for Chandrayaan I. He was a visiting scientist at Swiss Federal Institute, Switzerland.

PJ is an independent animation designer, screenwriter and media educator. His short films have been screened in film festivals worldwide and won him various international accolades. His articles related to animation content development and media education have been published on various on-line and print platforms. Jyotirmaya Sharma is professor of political science at the University of Hyderabad, India. His recent publications include, Hindutva: Exploring the Idea of Hindu Nationalism (Penguin/Viking, 2003) and Terrifying Vision: M.S. Golwalkar, the RSS and India (Penguin/Viking, 2007). He is also the co-editor of Grounding Morality: Freedom, Knowledge and the Plurality of Cultures (Routledge, 2010). He is currently working on the thought of Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, Tagore and Gandhi (to be published by Penguin/Viking in 2009), while simultaneously working on a book exploring the life and ideas of Gandhi. He has been a fellow of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, and has lectured at the universities of Baroda, Hull, Oxford, and the St. Stephens College, Delhi. He was visiting professor in democratic theory at the South Asia Institute at Ruprecht-Karls University at Heidelberg in 2005. The International House, Japan, awarded him the Asia Leadership Fellow Programme fellowship for 2008. Sharma also held senior editorial positions at the Times of India and The Hindu between 1998-2006. He is a trained Hindustani classical musician.

Kannan Ramasubramanian (Kanna) is a Principal Program Manager at the Emerging Markets Labs (EM Labs) group at the Microsoft India Development Center (MSIDC) in Hyderabad. Kanna has been with Microsoft for about seven years. In his current role, Kanna incubates and evangelizes product and solution ideas aimed at consumers in emerging markets (with special emphasis on India) to business leaders and executives within the company. His latest passion is developing user experiences for technology solutions within constrained user environments. Prior to joining Microsoft, Kanna was co-founder and Director of Product Development at eSelf Inc., a software startup based out of Palo Alto, CA.

Kanna was a founding member of yet another Silicon Valley startup called Aslan Computing, a boutique services firm that provided consulting and implementation services to clients in and around the San Francisco Bay Area on Internet and Intranet applications and infrastructure. Kanna graduated with a B.Sc. in Computer Technology from the Government College of Technology (GCT), Coimbatore in 1990. He is the
co-author of 3 books published by MacMillan Publications’ Que Series on the subject of Internet and Intranet applications and infrastructure, and has multiple patent applications to his credit. Outside of his professional definition, Kanna fancies himself a writer of sorts and hopes to write the great Indian screenplay some day – that is if he can ever drag himself away from geeking out on home electronics every free moment he gets.
